Ultima Online™ 5th Anniversary Birthday Card Design Contest

Official Rules and Conditions

1. Entry. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. To enter, submit your name, email address, birthdate, and a Birthday Card Design that celebrates the 5-year history of Ultima Online via email to cardsubmission@uo.com as directed, between August 16, 2002 and Wednesday, September 4, 2002. The Birthday Card Design can be a maximum size of 600 pixels wide by 2200 pixels tall and no more than 1MB file size. No other methods of entry will be accepted. Limit: one entry per person. Entrants warrant that submissions are their own and original creations and do not violate or infringe the rights, including, without limitation, copyrights, of any third party. Completed entries must be received by Wednesday, September 4, 2002, by 11:59pm PST. All entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for lost, incomplete, incorrect, or misdirected entries. Use of a false email account will disqualify an entry. Sponsor is not responsible for technical, hardware or software malfunctions, misdirected entries, lost or unavailable network connections or failed, incorrect, inaccurate, incomplete, garbled or delayed electronic or other communications. The use of machines, computers, scripts or any automated system to enter is strictly prohibited. Sponsor, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person who tampers with the entry process or the operation of the web site, or who otherwise violates these rules. By entering, entrants accept and agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and Conditions.

2. Prizes; Winner Selection and Notification. There is one (1) prize: Winning entry will be sent via email to all active opt-in Ultima Online account holders and displayed on www.uo.com with credit given to the winner; winner will receive a collection of Electronic Arts PCCD games. [ARV 250.00]. Games awarded will be chosen at the discretion of the Sponsor.

Prizes are not transferable. No substitution of Prizes for cash or other goods and services is permitted, except Sponsor reserves the right to provide a substitute Prize of approximately equal value. Taxes on Prizes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the individual winners.

Winners will be selected on or about Friday, September 7, 2002.

Members of the Origin Systems and Electronic Arts Marketing Departments, in their sole discretion, will select the winning entry based on the following criteria: 50% Creativity, 50% how much it represents the spirit and history of Ultima Online . Odds of winning depend upon the number of eligible entries in this Contest and the relative skill of each entrant. Winners may be required to complete and sign an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release, in the form provided by Sponsor, within 14 days of notification in order to claim Prize. Winners will be notified by an email sent to the email address specified on the Contest submission. If the winner cannot be contacted at this email address, is contacted and does not respond with name and home address (for prize delivery) and other requested documentation within 14 days of notification, refuses the prize or is ineligible to accept the prize, a new winner for that Prize may be selected. Winners must provide a shipping address to claim prize. Prize will be sent to winners via USPS Ground Delivery. Allow 4-6 weeks for delivery of Prize.

3. Eligibility. This Contest is only open to residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 13 years of age or older at time Contest begins. Employees of Electronic Arts Inc., EA.Com Inc., and their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, representatives, advertising, promotion and publicity agencies and the immediate families of each are not eligible. Contest is void where prohibited, restricted or taxed by law. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.

4. General Conditions. Electronic Arts Inc., EA.com Inc., and their respective affiliates and subsidiaries, representatives, advertising, promotion and publicity agencies, are not in any way responsible or liable for damages, loss or injury resulting from participation in this Contest or the acceptance, shipping and handling, loss or use of any Prizes awarded in this Contest. Winners assume sole liability for injuries, including personal injuries and/or damage to property, caused or claimed to be caused by participating in this Contest or the acceptance, shipping and handling, loss or use of any Prize awarded. Sponsor has the right to cancel, terminate or modify this Contest if it cannot be completed as planned due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, technical failures, or other conditions beyond Sponsor's control. Sponsor is not responsible for any failure to contact entrants whether due to technical or human error.

By entering this Contest, entrants agree that Sponsor may post their submission and has the right to use the submission along with entrant’s user or screen name and hometown on Sponsor’s web site and in any and all publicity and advertising for Ultima Online or this Contest without any further attribution, notification or compensation to entrants except where prohibited by law. Sponsor, in its sole discretion, may edit and/or modify any submission for publication.

5. Winners list. A winners list will be available at www.uo.com/cardcontest.html after approximately Wednesday, September 25, 2002 and posted until approximately Monday, January 6, 2003, and is also available by sending a stamped, self addressed envelope marked “5 Year Birthday Card Design Contest ” to Attn: Contest Department c\o Origin Systems Inc., 5918 West Courtyard Dr, Austin, TX 78730-5036.
