Expectations & Guidelines

What Is a Discord Ambassador?

UO Discord Ambassadors are trusted, experienced members of the Ultima Online community who have been recognized for their helpfulness, knowledge, and positive presence in the official Discord. The Discord Ambassador role is not a moderation position, it is a community leadership role. Discord Ambassadors represent the best of what this server can be: knowledgeable, welcoming, and engaged.

This is a Discord-only role. Discord Ambassadors are expected to be active participants in this server and to help shape a culture where new, returning, and veteran players all feel at home.

Core Responsibilities

1. Connecting Players with Shards, Communities & Resources

One of the most valuable things a Discord Ambassador can do is help players find the right community for their playstyle and shard. Many members arrive in this server specifically looking for a home and Discord Ambassadors help them find one.

• When a player is looking for a shard community, help guide them toward the right fit based on their playstyle, experience level, and preferences.
• Share relevant resources, whether that’s community information, guides, or tools, to help players get oriented on their chosen shard.
• This is done through personal knowledge and direct conversation. Do not direct players to outside community discords publicly in the server.
• If you are unsure about a specific shard or resource, connect the player with someone who can help rather than guessing.

2. Answering Questions

Discord Ambassadors help ensure that no question goes unanswered. If you see a question in any channel, especially if it has been skipped over in an active conversation, step in and respond.

• You don’t need to know every answer. A brief “I’m not sure but try asking in <relevant channel>” is better than silence.
• Monitor the #returning-players and #new-player-corner channel as a priority. This is where members are most directly asking for help. Also, your specific shard’s channel
• Aim to respond to unanswered questions within a reasonable timeframe when you’re online.

3. Welcoming New & Returning Players

First impressions matter. When someone identifies themselves as new or returning in the server, Discord Ambassadors are encouraged to give them a warm, personal welcome, not just a reaction emoji.

• Acknowledge them by name and ask a simple question to get them talking (e.g., which shard they’re on, what playstyle they’re going for).
• Point them toward useful channels, resources, or community members who can help.
• Remember: a new player who feels welcomed is far more likely to stick around and contribute.

4. Participating in Weekly Prompts

Weekly community prompts are one of our primary tools for keeping the server active and building a sense of shared history among members. Discord Ambassadors are encouraged to engage with these, not just as participants, but as conversation starters.

• Respond to weekly prompt threads to signal that the server is alive and engaged.
• Encourage others to share their own responses when appropriate.
• If you have ideas for future prompts, pass them along to the Community Manager.

5. Standards of Conduct

Discord Ambassadors are visible members of the community and are expected to model the behavior we want to see from everyone.

• Be patient and respectful, especially with players who are frustrated or confused.
• Do not engage in arguments or escalate conflicts. If a situation requires moderation, contact the mod team.
• When redirecting complaints, do so with empathy, acknowledge the frustration, then guide them to the #feedback channel.
• Represent the Discord server and your shard well. Your conduct reflects on the official Ultima Online Discord.

6. Discord Terms of Service

• Discord Ambassadors must comply with Discord’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines at all times.
• This includes rules around prohibited content, harassment, and server behavior.
• Violations of Discord’s TOS will result in immediate removal of the Discord Ambassador role and may result in further action by the moderation team.

7. Ultima Online Terms of Service

• Discord Ambassadors are expected to abide by the Ultima Online Terms of Service and Rules of Conduct in their gameplay.
• Conduct that violates the game’s TOS, including cheating, exploitation, or harassment of other players in-game, is incompatible with the Discord Ambassador role.
• The Discord Ambassador role represents the official UO Discord community. Behavior that reflects poorly on that community, in-game or otherwise, will be taken seriously.

8. What Discord Ambassadors Are Not

Discord Ambassadors are not moderators. You do not have the authority to warn, mute, kick, or ban members, and you should not represent yourself as having that authority. If you encounter rule-breaking behavior, report it to the mod team and step back.

There are no time requirements for being a Discord Discord Ambassador, and you can participate based entirely on your own time.

Role Removal

The Discord Ambassador role is a privilege extended based on trust and ongoing contribution. It may be removed under the following circumstances:

Before removal for inactivity or conduct, the moderation team will make a reasonable effort to reach out privately. Role removal is not intended to be punitive, it is about maintaining the integrity of the role.
