An accidental bug in 2009, unfixed by request of players, resulted in some plants previously only available as non-pollinating <a href="http://uo.com/wiki/ultima-online-wiki/gameplay/crafting/plant-growing/fragrant-and-peculiar-seeds/">peculiar plants</a> to become possible in colored and cross-pollinating choices. <h3>Where to Start</h3> <a href="http://uo.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/colored-cactus.gif"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-10946" src="http://uo.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/colored-cactus.gif" alt="colored-cactus" width="80" height="52" /></a>Initial seeds in plain, red, blue, and yellow are obtainable from Boglings and Bogthings. In the past these seeds were campions, ferns, and tri-barrel cactus; the first generation seeds for cross pollination. The 2009 bug replaced the tri-barrel cactus seed with a random seed, most of these random seeds, when identified through a seed box or by use of poppy dust will prove to be normal plant crossing types of the later generations and follow the regular cross-pollination rules, one seed however, identifying merely as 'cactus' grows to be the flowery cactus previously only obtainable as a 'peculiar' seed, infertile and plain colored. <h3>Growing the Cactus</h3> Having obtained Red, Blue and Yellow cactus, grow them and allow them to self pollinate, giving you 8 cactus seeds in each color. Color crossing works exactly as expected, including the possibility of mutant black or white, but resulting plants are more surprising. For example if you cross a red cactus with a blue cactus the result will be a purple plant - but not a cactus. You will find yourself the owner of a purple spider tree! <h3>Crossing Results</h3> <ul> <li>Cactus x Cactus = Spider Tree</li> <li>Cactus x Spider Tree = Hops (East)</li> <li>Spider Tree x Hops (East) = Hops (South)</li> <li>Spider Tree x Spider Tree = Cactus</li> </ul> As you create each new plant type allow one of the 8 seeds to become a self pollinating plant before proceding to the next step to maintain your stock of available seeds. <h3>Getting the Colors</h3> With the less obvious crossing results getting a full range of colors in each plant type can be tricky. Plant crossings will be needed to achieve all colors in all types is as follows: <h4>Step One</h4> Creating Spider Trees from basic color cactus <ul> <li>red cactus x red cactus = bright red spider alt="colored-bonsai" width="23" height="32" /></a>By crossing these new, colored, plants with some of the regular cross pollination types it is possible to achieve all types of bonsai in all colors, these produce seeds but cannot be cross pollinated. The table below indicates the bonsai type that is created, not the color of the plant. Colored vanilla plants produce no resources and cannot be cross pollinated, but they do produce seeds.
