Spritelight (Summer 2026)

This summer sees the first what will be an annual Spritelight event. On a recent visit to Heartwood I met Laccaria the Mushroom Aficionado, here’s what she told me.

Ah! A customer… and a sensible one too, I hope! Have you seen the woods lately? Mushrooms everywhere! I have not witnessed a Spritelight Bloom this lively in years. They’re sprouting under roots, beside stones, even deep within the cavernous dungeons! The forest must be in particularly generous mood

If you meant to gather them, you’ll want a proper Mushroom Harvesting Knife from a skilled Tinker. Do not just yank them from the ground, you’ll bruise the stem and ruin the cap. And mind this well, the moment they leave the soil them begin to decay. A Mushroom Preservation Pack crafted by a Tailor will keep them from spoiling on your journey back.

I should also make one thing perfectly clear! My sister and I do not trade in preserved mushrooms. Oh, they keep well enough, yes, but the flavor is never the same. Fresh mushrooms just lifted from the earth, that’s where the taste lies!

Bring them to us unpreserved and we will reward you properly… and if you can even tell me what species you’ve found, I may reward you better still!

Now, if you cannot tell one mushroom from another, do not worry! The cooks have prepared a handy little book. The Forager’s Field Guide: Mushrooms. Fine reference work! Study it and you may actually know what you’ve brought us, and I always pay more for a forager who knows their caps from their stems.

And have you heard about the hogs? Clever folk have been taming the wild Truffle Hogs and bringing them along while they forage. Those beasts can sniff out truffles buried deep beneath the soil. Most truffles are pleasant enough, but my sister and I are after only one… the rare Giant Truffle. Should you uncover such a prize, bring it straight to us. We will pay very handsomely.

So off with you! The forest is practically begging to be harvested, and I would hate for someone else to find the finest caps before you do.

Leaving Laccaria I visited my local tinker who made me the required knife, warning me that it was fragile and would only cut up to 100 mushrooms before I would need to replace it.

My resident cook was willing to make a copy of the book, but needed a book of lore from a scribe and 5 of the miniature mushrooms that spawn in Heartwood to complete it

Here’s what I discovered on my first mushroom collecting trip:

  • Those knives are hard to use, you can cut yourself and the cut will bleed and you may be poisoned.
    • Hidden characters are revealed and can not re-hide while bleeding
  • We aren’t the only ones looking for them, there are groups of Kappa hidden who will ambush a forager
  • Mushrooms are fragile, they will only survive for a maximum of 2 hours unpreserved
  • If I put all my mushrooms in a bag, the forager’s field guide can identify them all at once.
  • Colossal Toadstools create a number of spritelight mushrooms around them as you harvest them, sometimes they even create another colossal toadstool! Dismount to use the harvester knife on the toadstool until it you actually harvest it, then collect the resulting mushrooms.
    • Once fully harvested, the Colossal Toadstool will be collected and can be kept as a decorative item
    • Colossal Toadstools cannot be turned into the Spritelight Trader
    • Harvesting a Colossal Toadstool has a rare chance to uncover a Spritelight Forager pet statue embedded within, chance increased by luck.

Truffle Hogs

Truffle hogs can be found in various farm locations. They require no taming skill, although a tamer can train them up from 1 – 3 slot. It can be difficult to keep them alive through ambushes from Kappa. The ordinary black and white truffles can be used by tinkers to make special baskets or by a tailor to make a new hat. The hog will only dig for truffles when you harvest mushrooms and will squeal if it unearths them. Morelia pays well for giant truffles, 101 points!

The Mushrooms

From the Forager’s Field Guide I learned that there are 30 species of mushroom, each having eight variants in addition to the main Spritelight variety. These are:

  • Stardust
  • Ruby
  • Daemonic
  • Verdant
  • Shadowbloom
  • Innfernal
  • Drethbloom
  • Blackrock

Further, each of these can be common, uncommon, rare, exotic or mythical.

Should you find a particularly attractive mushroom that you want to keep instead of selling to Laccaria and her sister you will need to use the preservation pack she mentioned, obtained from a tailor. Drop your find in the bag and use a context menu on the bag to activate its preservation property.

Spritelight Explosion

Some high level creatures are known to scatter a variety of Spritelight Mushrooms around them when they are defeated, these are:

  • Dread Horn
  • Travesty
  • Chief Paroxysmus
  • Lady Melisande
  • Monstrous Interred Grizzle
  • Shimmering Effusion
  • Medusa
  • Lord Oaks & Silvani
  • Twualo of the Glade
