01 – The Devilish Drover
By EM Malachi The Devilish Drover The wind howled, promising snow. Iolo limped into the poorhouse and dropped his crutch, shutting the door. He moved the heavy pack off his back and leaned against the wall to catch his breath. Little Merideth ran over to pick up the crutch and hand it back to him. Under her arm was an old doll with mismatched button eyes; Iolo had found the blue one during a supply run into Britain proper. “Can you tell us a story?” “Of course.” Iolo pulled a chair closer to the fire. “What would everyone like to […]
Jolly Roger (Shrine Battles)
Worrying news has reached the town crier recently Investigators have indeed discovered the wreck of the infamous admiral’s ship Beside the ship are the frozen crew and their pumpkin-headed leader, also a white book is just visible, though the text is hard to read. Forensic evaluation of the Admiral reveals he is wearing an amulet. A strangely familiar amulet? Perhaps if you were to wear a similar amulet and re-examine the book? Two locations are gleaned here by those who can read it, one obvious and, one less so, for later. Shamino stands poised on the edge of the well […]
The Mannequin
This item was first introduced as an anniversary gift in 2011, repeated Christmas 2015. These useful, but simple, ‘clothes horses’ were updated December 2019 to improve the ability to use them to build suits. The initial context menu gave the option to customize body type, turn in quarter turn increments and switch clothes. This option allowed the owner to quickly exchange the items he or she was wearing with those being worn by the mannequin. From publish 107, December 2109 mannequins have a new context menu View Suit Stats – This context menu option will display all the unique […]
06 – Eventide
Eventide By EM Malachi The beer tasted like wet parchment, and the candles in the Marsh Hall were burning low. Dupre sat at a back table and finished off the stale pint. The barkeep hadn’t wanted to tap a new keg this late in the evening, and Dupre just wanted to calm his stomach before boarding the ship. Checking his sword for the third time, the paladin grumbled, “I’m getting too old for this.” There came a laugh from behind him. “You said the same thing during the Ophidian war and every battle since.” Dupre turned to face a soldier […]

05 – A Concert of Wisps
A Concert of Wisps By EM Malachi “Xzptz! Zzk! Gxz!” Jaana stepped into the clearing and paused in awe at the hundreds of wisps. The forest buzzed with spark life. A few wisps flew orbits around her and blinked their agitation. The druid removed a small wooden object from her bag. Several rangers had told her that the wisps were converging in the woods north of Britain. Jaana blew a few trills on the wisp whistle and put it on the ground. A wisp flew into the whistle and started testing various sounds to make words. With its own magic, […]

04 – The Mortal Game
By EM Malachi The Mortal Game It bothered the king that the pieces did not match. His side was made from obsidian, beautifully sculpted into the expected shapes. The crafter had taken more liberty with red’s side, giving extra details to each of the bloodwood pieces. The knights were decorated with curved swords, and the bishops had gargoyle features. The towers were topped with sharp points that reminded Blackthorn of wolf claws. The board and pieces had been a gift from Lord Batlin when the king suggested they play this game. The king steepled his fingers and examined the board. […]
