<a href="#carry">Map Carrying Monsters</a> | <a href="#decode">Decode Skill Needed</a> | <a href="#find">Finding the Chest</a> | <a href="#pick">Lockpick Requirements</a> |<a href="#blocked">Inaccessible Locations</a> | <a href="#chest">Chest Content &amp; Guardians</a> | <a href="#done">Completed Maps</a> A major update in publish 105, Spring 2019, reduced the number of map levels from 7 to 5 In addition, treasure chests have now been themed based on the following profession inspired packages: <ul> <li>Artisan</li> <li>Assassin</li> <li>Mage</li> <li>Ranger</li> <li>Warrior</li> </ul> This results in a map that will read like this “A Tattered Treasures Map Leading to a Mage’s Hoard” There are also three qualities of chest, rusty, the familiar normal metal or gold. Chest Quality is determined at dig time based on the digger’s modified cartography skill the first time the chest is successfully dug up. If you decide to force the chest to be redug (i.e. move) the quality will never be better than the first pull, but can be worse if your cartography skill is lower than the first successful attempt. Luck is pulled from the player who digs up the chest at the time the chest is created, which is when they begin the digging process successfully. <a href=""><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-19986" src="" alt="" width="36" height="44" /></a><a href=""><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-19987" src="" alt="" width="36" height="45" /></a><a href=""><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-19988" src="" alt="" width="36" height="45" /></a> New to old map levels are as follows: &nbsp; <table border="1"> <tbody class="row-hover"> <tr class="row-2 even" role="row"> <td class="column-1">1</td> <td class="column-2">Plainly Drawn</td> <td class="column-3">1</td> <td class="column-4">Stash</td> </tr> <tr class="row-3 odd" role="row"> <td class="column-1">2</td> <td class="column-2">Expertly Drawn</td> <td rowspan="2">2</td> <td rowspan="2">Supply</td> </tr> <tr class="row-4 even" role="row"> <td class="column-1">3</td> <td class="column-2">Adeptly Drawn</td> </tr> <tr class="row-5 odd" role="row"> <td class="column-1">4</td> <td class="column-2">Cleverly Drawn</td> <td rowspan="2">3</td> <td rowspan="2">Cache</td> </tr> <tr class="row-6 even" role="row"> <td class="column-1">5</td> <td class="column-2">Deviously Drawn</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="column-1">6</td> <td class="column-2">Ingeniously Drawn</td> <td class="column-3">4</td> <td class="column-4">Hoard</td> </tr> <tr class="row-8 even" role="row"> <td class="column-1">7</td> <td class="column-2">Diabolically Drawn</td> <td class="column-3">5</td> <td class="column-4">Trove</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <h3>Where do I get a Treasure Map?</h3> As a starting point for a new hunter I would recommend the quest <a href="">‘The Witches Apprentice’</a> Part of the reward for this quest is a map, random level 1 – 4. If you do the quest in Felucca you will get a Felucca map, if you do it in Trammel you will receive a Trammel map. Another area where you are sure to receive a map is the Guardian Room in Doom. Here the random level is 1 or 2 (beware the poison cloud!) Treasure maps can be found as loot on a wide selection of the creatures in the game. These maps range in difficulty on an internal scale of 1 to 5. The odds of a map appearing on one of these monsters is approximately 1%. <i>Note some Eodon creatures may drop different map levels, depending on the strength of the individual, where this is possible they are shown in both lists</i> <a title="carry" name="carry"></a> <table border="1" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="1"> <tbody> <tr> <td colspan="3"><strong>Which monsters carry treasure maps ?</strong></td> </tr> <tr> <td> <h5>Map Level</h5> </td> <td> <h5>Map Name</h5> </td> <td> <h5>Monsters</h5> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center">1</td> <td>Stash</td> <td>Agapite Elemental, Air Elemental, Bronze Elemental, Anchisaur, Archaeosaurus, Cave Troll (Shame), Copper Elemental, Dark Guardian, Desert Scorpion, Dull Copper Elemental, Earth Elemental, Enraged Earth Elemental, Enslaved Gargoyle, Enslaved Gray Goblin, Enslaved Green Goblin, Ettin, Evil Mage, Fire Gargoyle, Frost Troll, Gallusarus, Gargoyle, Gazer, Golden Elemental, Greater Earth Elemental, Eodon Britannian, Eodon tribesperson (warrior), Greater Mongbat (in chest), Lion, Lizardman, Molten Earth Elemental, Mud Elemental, Mummy, Myrmidex Drone, Myrmidex Warrior, Ogre, Ophidian Enforcer, Ophidian Warrior, Orc, Orcish Lord, Orcish Mage, Quartz Elemental, Sabre-toothed Tiger, Sea Serpent, Shadow Iron Elemental, Soulbound Apprentice Mage, Strange Gazer,Terathan Warrior, Triceratops, Troll, Valorite Elemental, Verite Elemental, Vicious Macaw, Wild Tiger.</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center">2</td> <td>Supply</td> <td>Acid Elemental, Anlorlem, Arctic Ogre Lord, Battle Mage, Bound Soul, Cave Troll (Wrong), Clan Scratch Scrounger,Cold Drake, Corrupted Mage, Crystal Sea Serpent, Cyclopean Warrior, Dark Guardian, Deep Sea Serpent, Drake, Eodon Tribesperson (Shaman), Evil Mage Lord, Fairy Dragon, Fan Dancer, Fezzik the Ogre Cook, Fire Ant, Fire Elemental, Flame Elemental, Juka Mage, Kappa, Lesser Hiryu, Lich, Lizardman Defender, Lizardman Squatter, Meer Mage,  Minotaur, Minotaur Captain, Minotaur Scout, Myrmidex Warrior, Najasaurus, Ogre Lord, Ophidian Apprentice Mage, Ophidian Avenger, Ophidian Justicar, Ophidian Knight-Errant, Ophidian Shaman, Ophidian Zealot,Pirate, Raptor, Ratman Mage, Reaper, Restless Soul, Revenant Lion, Saurosaurus, Sea Serpent, Slith, Snow Elemental, Soulbound Spell Slinger, Stone Elemental, Stone Gargoyle, Terathan Avenger, Trapdoor Spider, Triceratops, Troglodyte, Tsuki Wolf, Vile Drake (Belfry), Vile Mage, Volcano Elemental, Water Elemental, Wanderer of the Void, Wyvern Yomotsu Warrior. You need to decode it. Double click the map, if your cartography skill is high enough you will be able to read it, though it may take more than one attempt. An unread map has the description ‘tattered’, when read this label is lost and the map becomes ‘blessed’. The location on a map which has been read is valid for 30 days, after that the map will return to ‘tattered’ status and re-set with a new location (handy if the first location turns out to be under someone’s house and so unobtainable). If you expect to become an avid treasure hunter consider investing in the year 8 <a href="">Veteran reward</a>, Davies’ Locker to aid with storage, this object also provides rough co-ordinates on maps that have been read. <table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="1"> <tbody> <tr> <td colspan="3"><strong>Skill required to decode a map</strong></td> </tr> <tr> <td>Map Level</td> <td>Map Descr.</td> <td>Skill Level</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center">1</td> <td>Stash</td> <td>27.0* cartography required</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center">2</td> <td>Supply</td> <td>70.0 cartography required</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center">3</td> <td>Cache</td> <td>90.0 cartography required</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center">4</td> <td>Hoard</td> <td>100 cartography required</td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center">5</td> <td>Trove</td> <td>100 cartography required</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> *Approximate, varies between 27 to 30, but this isn’t a problem, as you can be trained by the NPCs to over 30 skill, so you can decode level 1’s as soon as you have trained. You can also gain cartography skill by attempting to decode a level one map. Eventually you will be able to read it. If you get a message in the lower left of your screen saying “this map is too difficult to attempt to decode” then it is <em>not</em> a level one map, and you will not gain from trying to decode it. <a title="find" name="find"></a> <h3>Finding the Treasure Chest</h3> After decoding your treasure map, the location of the chest will be indicated with a single pin in the classic client or a red x in the enhanced client. Before heading off after the treasure, you may find it advisable to compare your treasure map against a world-map. Look for any distinctive landmarks on your map, and compare it with the map, all facets are covered. Find the area that matches what is shown on your treasure map, zoom in to get rough co-ordinates to begin your search and head for that area. When you believe you are in the right vicinity, do one of the following: For EC players, tick the ’tilt map’ option on your overhead map and then compare your treasure map with your location <a href=""><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4553" src="" alt="tilt_map" width="300" height="188" /></a> For CC players, take mapmakers pen and some blank scrolls with you, stand absolutely still and create a ‘local’ map, then use the ‘plot course’ option. Place a pin at each of the four corners, working diagonally. Compare the spot where the lines cross, ie where you are currently standing, with the pin on your map. You can see from this example that the pin on the map is slightly south and west of the position in which I was standing to draw the map. <a href=""><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4554" src="" alt="plot_map" width="300" height="159" /></a> Once you believe that you have arrived in the right area, you can begin digging using the context menu on the map. The older, still valid, method of digging requires that you double click your shovel, target the map, then target the ground. Once you have begun digging, do not move from the spot or you will invalidate the attempt and must start over. You can, however, cast spells. If you fail to find the treasure, move on a step and try again. <h3>The Additional Benefit of Cartography</h3> In addition to enabling the treasure hunter to read the map, cartography also extends the dig radius (from the treasure spot) as listed below. This bonus was previously granted by mining skill: <ul> <li>0 to 50.9 skill gives a 1 tile radius (in other words, you must dig the exact correct spot of the chest)</li> <li>51 to 80.9 skill gives a 2 tiles radius</li> <li>81 to 99.9 skill gives a 3 tiles radius</li> <li>100 skill gives a 4 tiles radius</li> </ul> Note: These numbers refer to enhanced skill, not “real” so + cartography items such as Legendary Mapmaker’s Glasses will help Failed attempts give only a message, so when you hear your character start digging you know you have been successful in finding the chest. You will see a ‘dirt patch’ appear which becomes bigger, revealing part of the chest, and then the whole chest. Count the digs and learn to time when the chest guardians will appear on the lower level maps, this will help avoid deaths on higher level ones! The initial spawn of 4 – 8 guardians appear as the chest clears the ground. These are ‘tethered’ to the chest and will spring back if an attempt is made to lead them too far away. The chest lock cannot be picked until these guardians have been defeated. Once raised, the chest will remain for roughly an hour and then disappear. On the highest level chests this is not always sufficient time to defeat all the guardians for a solo hunter. It is highly recommended that a team of at least 2 – 3 be recruited for level 5 maps, especially in Trammel, Felucca or Eodon. You may now pick the lock. Double click your lockpick, and click on the chest. If lockpicking fails, a Grubber may unlock and emerge from the chest, he will have stolen an item! You can recover your item by killing him, but he moves very quickly. Levels 1 to 3 chests can be unlocked by a mage using the ‘magic unlock’ spell if the mage’s skill is high enough. Chests are trapped. Prior to publish 105 it was possible to trigger this trap using telekinesis, or simply double click the box and absorb the resulting explosion. This is no longer possible, you must use the ‘remove trap’ skill. There is no minimum skill requirement for the different chest levels, the disarming process will begin when a player uses Remove Trap on the chest. The length of this process is variable based on the player’s Remove Trap skill, with higher Remove Trap skill requiring less disarming time. During the disarming process Ancient Chest Guardians, chosen from the monsters that can spawn during the initial dig, will spawn to defend the chest, accompanied by some fire damage to the digger and any nearby party members. These monsters will not drop any loot and must be defeated before the chest can be opened. If the player moves more than 16 tiles away from the chest or is killed during the disarming process, the process must be restarted. High HP on the character and 70 fire resist on the suit will allow most characters to survive the damage from the chest. Other things that might be helpful are Greater Strength Potions, Rose of Trinsic petals, <a title="Fishing" href="">Truly Rare Fish</a> and <a title="Cooking Essay" href="">Firefish Pies</a> <a title="pick" name="pick"></a> <table border="1" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="1"> <tbody> <tr> <td colspan="5" align="center"><strong>Requirements for opening treasure chests.</strong></td> </tr> <tr> <td>Map level</td> <td>Map Descr.</td> <td>Minimum Lockpicking</td> <td>Magery</td> </tr> <tr> <td>1</td> <td>Stash</td> <td>11.0 skill</td> <td>50</td> </tr> <tr> <td>2</td> <td>Supply</td> <td>76.0 skill</td> <td>80</td> </tr> <tr> <td>3</td> <td>Cache</td> <td>84.0 skill</td> <td>100</td> </tr> <tr> <td>4</td> <td>Hoard</td> <td>92.0 skill</td> <td>no effect</td> </tr> <tr> <td>5</td> <td>Trove</td> <td>100 skill</td> <td>no effect</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="5">DO NOT TRY TO OPEN A CHEST UNTIL YOU HAVE <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline">AT LEAST </span></strong> THE RECOMMENDED LOCKPICK SKILL.</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <h4><a name="blocked"></a> Inaccessible Chests</h4> Treasure map locations are random, sometimes they may spawn in an inaccessible, or just undesirable, place. These need not be discarded. A read (blessed) treasure map, if not dug up within 30 days, will re-set becoming again ‘tattered’. When read this map will show a new, different, location on the same facet. <h4>The Treasure <a title="chest" name="chest"></a></h4> There are 4 factors that influence what items end up in a chest if successful random rolls are made, Map Level, Profession Package, Chest Quality, and Facet. Chest quality can impact chest loot in a variety of ways including the quantity of a specific loot item, the range of bonuses, the type of crafting materials, and the intensity of randomly generated magic equipment. Chests have a chance to contain the following loot items based on level, package, and facet, <ul> <li>Gold &amp; Gems in special gold &amp; gem bags (all packages, all levels) <a href=""><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-19990" src="" alt="" width="27" height="17" /></a><a href=""><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-19991" src="" alt="" width="23" height="23" /></a></li> <li><a href="">Minor artifacts</a>, <a href="">Pub 67 Artifacts</a> (All packages, Supply)</li> <li>Randomly Generated Equipment The types of equipment are based on the package and facet which corresponds to the profession who might use the equipment and the facet based on when the item was released in the game. For example, if you are looking for a dagger you may look at Assassin maps in Trammel or if you are after a Repeating Crossbow you would look at Ranger maps in Malas. The quantity of items available is based on the level of chest, there is a chance for additional items based on party size. In addition to the guardians some maps may spawn 2 - 4 additional mobs. These creatures are not guardians and do not prevent the unlocking of the chest, many of these are tameable. In the lists below these mobs are shown in parentheses <table border="1" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"> <tbody> <tr> <td colspan="6">Level 1, Stash</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Eodon</td> <td>Felucca/Trammel</td> <td>Ilshenar</td> <td>Malas</td> <td>Tokuno</td> <td>Ter Mur</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Myrmidex Larvae silverback Gorilla (Panther Wild Tiger)</td> <td>Mongbats, Ratmen, Headless Ones, Skeletons, Zombies</td> <td>Mongbats, Ratmen, Headless Ones, Skeletons, Zombies</td> <td>Mongbats, Ratmen, Headless Ones, Skeletons, Zombies</td> <td>Mongbats, Ratmen, Headless Ones, Skeletons, Zombies,</td> <td>Mongbats, Ratmen, Headless Ones, Skeletons, Zombies, Clockwork Scorpion, Corrosive Slime</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <table border="1" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"> <tbody> <tr> <td colspan="6">Level 2, Supply</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Eodon</td> <td>Felucca/Trammel</td> <td>Ilshenar</td> <td>Malas</td> <td>Tokuno</td> <td>Ter Mur</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Acid Elemental Sand Vortex (Lion Sabre Toothed Tiger)</td> <td>Air Elementals, Dread Spiders, Earth Elementals Fire Elementals Gargoyles, Gazers, Hellhounds, Liches, Mages, Ogre Lords, Orc</td> <td>Air Elementals, Dread Spiders, Earth Elementals Fire Elementals Gargoyles, Gazers, Hellhounds, Liches, Mages, Ogre Lords, Orc</td> <td>Air Elementals, Dread Spiders, Earth Elementals Fire Elementals Gargoyles, Gazers, Hellhounds, Liches, Mages, Ogre Lords, Orc</td> <td>Air Elementals, Dread Spiders, Earth Elementals Fire Elementals Gargoyles, Gazers, Hellhounds, Liches, Mages, Ogre Lords, Orc</td> <td>Acid Slug, Slith, Water Elemental Leather Wolf, Stone Slith, Toxic Slith</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <table border="1" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"> <tbody> <tr> <td colspan="5">Level 3, Cache</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Eodon</td> <td>Felucca/Trammel</td> <td>Ilshenar</td> <td>Malas</td> <td>Tokuno</td> <td>Ter Mur</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Infernal Fire Elemental (Demetrosor Saurosaurus)</td> <td>Blood Elementals Daemons, Dread Spiders, Elder Gazers, Lich Lords, Ogre Lords Poison Elementals</td> <td>Daemons, Dark Guardian Dread Spiders, Elder Gazers, Exodus Minion, Gargoyle Destroyer, Gargoyle Enforcer, Lich Lords, Ogre Lords Poison Elemental,</td> <td>Daemons, Dread Spiders, Elder Gazers, Lich Lords, Ogre Lords Ravager, Wanderer of the Void,</td> <td>Daemons, Devourer of Souls, Dread Spiders, Elder Gazers, Fan Dancer, Lich Lords, Ogre Lords Revenant Lion, Ronin, Rune Beetle,</td> <td>Bloodworm, Fire Ants, Kepetch, Lava Elementals, Maddening Horrors Stone Slith, Toxic Slith</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <table border="1" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"> <tbody> <tr> <td colspan="5">Level 4, Hoard</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Eodon</td> <td>Felucca/Trammel</td> <td>Ilshenar</td> <td>Malas</td> <td>Tokuno</td> <td>Ter Mur</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Kotl Automaton Mymidex Drone Allosaurus (Triceratops)</td> <td>Ancient Wyrm, Balron, Blood Elemental, Poison Elemental, Titan, Greater Dragon, Cold Drake (Dragon Wolf)</td> <td>Exodus Minion, Gargoyle Destroyer Titan, Changeling Enslaved Satyr (Dragon Wolf)</td> <td>Devourer of Souls, Rotting Corpse, Wanderer of the Void, Minotaur Captain, Minotaur Scout (Dragon Wolf)</td> <td>Rune Beetle, Lady of the Snow, Yomotsu Elder, Yomotsu Priest, Yomotsu Warrior, Hiryu, Oni (Dragon Wolf)</td> <td>Lava Elemental, Greater Poison Elemental, Enraged Earth Elemental Fire Daemon</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <table border="1" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" align="center"> <tbody> <tr> <td colspan="5">Level 5, Trove</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Eodon</td> <td>Felucca/Trammel</td> <td>Ilshenar</td> <td>Malas</td> <td>Tokuno</td> <td>Ter Mur</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Anchisaurus, Allosaurus, Sand Vortex</td> <td>Ancient Wyrm, Balron, Blood Elemental, Poison Elemental, Titan, Greater Dragon Cold Drake (Frost Dragon)</td> <td>Exodus Minion Gargoyle Destroyer Titan, Renegade Changeling, Enslaved Satyr</td> <td>Devourer of Souls, Rotting Corpse, Wanderer of the Void, Minotaur Captain, Minotaur Scout Minotaur General</td> <td>Rune Beetle, Lady of the Snow, Yomotsu Elder, Yomotsu Priest, Yomotsu Warrior, Hiryu, Oni, Yamandon</td> <td>Lava Elemental, Greater Poison Elemental, Enraged Earth Elemental , Fire Daemon, Enraged Colossus</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </div> <div></div> <h4>The Completed Map</h4> <div><a title="done" name="done"></a> Completed maps can be used to create a <a href="">wall hanging</a> to celebrate your accomplishments, even when trashed they are far from worthless.
