Magical Fish Pies

To become a chef, simply cook!

For many of the preparations you need to be near a heat source, this is most often an oven, but in some instances, such as barbeque, a camp fire or forge is sufficient. In the table, Cooking Menu, below where the proximity resource is listed as ‘flame’ any suitable heat source can be used. All such heat sources are:

• Campfire
• Fireplace
• Forge
• Heating stand
• Oven

You will need tools:

• a rolling pin is the easiest to make if your character has no tinkering skill (requires 5 boards)
• a skillet, next easiest at minimum 30 tinkering skill (requires 4 ingots)
• a flour sifter can be made at minimum 50 tinkering (requires 3 ingots)

You could, of course, simply buy your tools from the NPC cook in town.

Ingredients

• Sack of Flour:

  Gather wheat from a farmer’s field (eg. those outside Britain & Skara Brae). Place the wheat, and a cooking tool in your pack, and while standing next to a flour mill (either one placed as a house add on deed made by a player carpenter or one in public NPC bakery), double click the cooking tool, select ‘sack of flour’ from the ‘ingredients’ section of the menu.

  It is possible to grind wheat using the flour mill itself, with attendant animation, but you will only get one sack of flour for every 4 sheaves of wheat in this way.

  Alternatively buy from NPC Cook or Baker

• Vegetables:

  Turnips, lettuce, cabbage, carrots and onions can be gathered from farmer’s fields (Britain, Cove, Skara Brae) or bought from Farmers, either at the farms or at farmer’s markets in town.

• Fruit:

  Apples and Peaches can be gathered from trees (heritage token) Grapes from grapevines (fishing – shipwreck chests) or buy from Farmer. More unusual fruits like bananas can be bought from Inn Keepers.

• Meat:

  Most of the animals in UO will drop uncooked meat when killed and skinned

  • Sheep: legs of lamb. One of the mysteries of Sosaria is that a killed sheep has only 3 legs in its corpse.
  • Cow, Hind, Boar: cuts of raw ribs
  • Chicken, Harpy: raw bird
  • Fish: raw fish steak

• Milk:

  Double click an empty pitcher and then a cow or buy from an inn or tavern

• Honey:

  A Beehive from clean-up points will give you 1 honeypot a day or buy from Baker or Bee Keeper (Vesper)

• Fresh Ginger:

  Buy from Baker (Note: The Baker shop in New Haven has cooks, but no ‘baker’ npc and therefore does not sell this)

• Water:

  Water pitchers can be filled from the sea if you target a wave, water barrels or water troughs (see also Endless Decanter of Water)

• Chocolate Ingredients:

  Originally from paragon Monsters in Ilshenar the ingredients can now be obtained from plants, Cocoa can be grown from Cocoa trees, Sugar from Sugar Cane and Vanilla from Vanilla plants. Seeds to grow these plants can be found on various monsters, listed here

• Foil Sheet:

  Obtained in the Valley of Eodon, this item spawns on the nests of the Vicious Mackaws, found on the Zigurat west of the Moongate. Beware they will defend their possessions and one of the birds will take the sheet when you try to remove it from their nest. Chocolate ingredients can be also be found as loot on these birds.

Foods with Special Properties

The most frequent problem encountered with eating enchanted foods, or magical fish pies, is being too full to eat them. The solution to this is an item, Pepta’s Satiety Cure obtain by completing a simple quest ‘I Think I Overate’.

Note: Only one fish pie type may be active at any time. Eating a different pie type while a pie is active will replace, not add to, the pie’s effect.
