Mini champs are spawn areas within the Stygian Abyss dungeon composed of two to three groups of monsters (in increasing levels of difficulty), with a final ‘champion’ monster called a [Renowned]. Renowned are a considerably stronger version of a familiar mob, something like Ilshenar paragons, but on a higher scale. Each mini-champ group drops one type of essence, named for the Gargoyle virtues, used in imbuing. There are two entry quests for the Stygian Abyss, Garamon’s Quest beginning in Underworld or Naxatilor’s Quest beginning in Ter Mur. You may only undertake one of these, if you undertake Naxatilor’s Quest you will be unable to do Garamon’s Quest and vice versa. These quests allow entry to the Stygian Abyss but will not be offered to characters that have completed Garamon’s quest.
