Heckles poured the wine into two glasses, and handed one to each of the Kings. Lord British smiled to the jester while King Blackthorn gave him a nod, and the two returned to their conversation. “I must say, it is a surprise to find you have returned without Nystul’s aid. Where have you been for so long? Why has your return been delayed?”
Lord British took a sip and set the glass down, steepling his fingers slightly before speaking. “I have…admittedly been caught up of late with new adventures. I have traveled to the stars…leaving behind the trappings of earth for a time and feeling what it is like to truly be free of all constraints. And though she could not come with me, I have also found love…and found a bond that can never be broken. Looking back, I realize that all of my ponderings and thoughts and musings upon the natures of the Virtues have come back to me in such a profound new manner at having experienced such a wondrous thing first hand…especially after being able to bring new life into existence. Through it all, I have had the shards of the gem…but they are safely with Nystul, for now. I found that a return to Britannia was in order…and it seems that the realm has it’s share of troubles. Was that Sir Dupre I spied leaving as I crossed the upper walkways?”
King Blackthorn’s expression was bright and he could see the way which his friends face shone with exuberance as he regaled him of his journeys. “Yes, it was…he has been pushing himself hard of late, especially with Minax’s resurgence of power, but we seemed to have pushed her back…she had some new minion with her she called Shanty, and was using a shard of the gem to bring raiders through using lighthouses.” The King paused as he took another sip of his wine, continuing with a hint of pride in his voice. “She is not the only old foe to resurface, with Exodus having been loosed once more…though Dupre’s knights and the realms adventurers are keeping him at bay, we cannot seem to banish him anymore as I once did. We sought the cooperation of Anon, but despite his desire to be for the realm with his Council of Mages, it seems that his time alone has driven him even further into eccentricity and madness…and if reports are to be believed, his Council has been shattered by what remained of Minax’s forces, at great cost to her own. Felucca is in disarray, and mindless fighting and slaughter seem to be the order of the day.” A rueful smile tugged at one corner of the King’s lips as he took another sip. “You definitely didn’t come at the best time for a parade, I fear.”
Lord British’s expression was set and grim as he nodded along, and leaned in. “There may yet be something we can do.”

The goblet clanged hard against the stone wall, the messenger shrinking away from her wrath as she shouted. “DON’T BRING ME RUMORS AND LIES!” Shanty merely stood in the corner, watching as the scene unfolded between the spy and Lady Minax.
“B-but, L-lady Minax, it’s not rumors…I saw him myself, entering the castle a short time before Dupre left, as you asked me to watch Dupre and try and figure out where we could…”
“IDIOT! You think the knight is the biggest threat? He is a nuisance, an annoyance, and while I want him crushed like a bug you should have taken the chance and killed Lord British when you saw him!”
“I was on the castle grounds, and there are spells in place that…”
A sharp crack echoed through the room as her hand impacted the man’s face, sending him tumbling to the floor and leaving little trails of blood where her nails had dug into his face. “I don’t want your excuses you whelp. Leave. Now. Before I change my mind…And send Anon to me! We don’t have time to waste!”

“And the Ararat has resurfaced…troubling, but fascinating.” Lord British set the empty wine glass down. “It would seem that all the pieces have been…reset for a new board, and yet all is in disarray and arranged in the wrong places. Enemies surround the Kingdom, and…” Lord British paused, and gave a bit of a frown at hearing a commotion, and King Blackthorn stood and looked out to the courtyard of the castle through one of the windows.
“It seems that word travels quickly… and that the people wish to see if this rumor of your return is true. I think we had best indulge them before we have a riot, Cantabrigian.” King Blackthorn turned to lead the way to the throne room.
Good afternoon,
We have to do an emergency maintenance on Legends at 1pm ET today. The shard will be down for approx. an hour. We are sorry for the inconvience.
UO Team
Greetings Everyone,
We would like to let everyone know that “Return to Britannia” will be turned on next week, we apologize for the delay, however due to a delay in our marketing mailers we have had to delay the start of the Return to Britannia promotion.
During “Return to Britannia” we will be setting up some Guild Recruiting Stations. For any guilds that wish to participate in welcoming new and returning players to the game please visit New Haven and Luna during Return to Britannia.
We would also like to announce the release of the MyUO on our website. During this initial beta phase of its release you will be able to do simple character and guild searches. In the next phase we will be adding paperdoll art and addressing any bugs found during the beta release. You can try it out at search.uo.com
This morning we are also putting out a mandatory client patch for an art update. You will need to patch to log in to the game.
Finally, don’t forget tonight is our big event on TC1 starting at 7pm ET! Character copy over and come visit with Richard “Lord British” Garriot and Starr “King Blackthorn” Long as they help us celebrate 17 years of Ultima Online.

Greetings Everyone,
I would like to introduce to you our new addition to the game, Advisors! You will be able to identify these players on your shards when you see them because they will be dressed like this:
If an Advisor is logged in you will be able to open your paperdoll and click on the help button, at the top you should see Contact an Advisor, click on this and write up the issue you wish the Advisor to help you with. Please keep in mind Advisors are NOT GM’s they do not have the powers to help you like a GM does. Advisors can move monsters that spawn out of reach, move corpses that die in out of reach locations, help new and returning players with information about the game that they don’t know or might have forgotten, and direct players to information sites that might be helpful. If an Advisor gets a call that she/he can’t handle they will forward it to a GM to keep the player from having to place two pages.
So please join us and welcome this team of players we have given the title of Advisor, make sure you speak to them when you see them on your shard and please be kind to them.
Thank you everyone for all your help with Publish 86 which will start hitting all the shards tomorrow during normal maintenance cycles.

We are publishing Publish 86 to Origin and Izumo today. We have already given a 30 minute server shut down warning. Below are the additional changes we have made since we published TC1.
Fixed issue where the altar tracking arrow could get stuck.
Added durability & antique VvV artifacts, epaulettes and robes.
Players who place, their guild mates, and allies will always be able to passively detect traps regardless of detecting hidden skill.
The sigil can no longer be put in the bank.
Increased the insurance rate for VvV equipment to 2,000gp.
The first time a player joins VvV they will receive 2,000 silver points. Each successive time a player joins their silver points will be set to 500.
It is possible you may experience two cliloc errors when attempting to place the VvV sigil into a bank or when trying to access the VvV Silver Trader without ever having been a VvV player.

The King frowned from his seat, staring at the chess table as Sir Dupre spoke to him. He idly moved a single piece back and forth. The table was clearly set mid match, and he always moved the piece between the same two spots…a legal move, but with no opponent to make the next one.
“It would seem that the Council of Mages has dissolved…after Anon’s vanishing, those few who remained quickly fell to infighting. A few of them have sought entrance into the True Britannians, but I am unsure if they are disciplined enough to fight alongside my troops in a way that will…”
“Sir Dupre, what do you make of the rumors that Anon has defected?”
Sir Dupre shook his head. “The man may have been mad, but he fought for Britannia all this time. I make it the ravings of a madman.” Dupre’s words were strong…but his voice lacked conviction.
“Perhaps we have lost one of the strongest mages remaining in this land to a well-orchestrated attack…or maybe our greatest enemy has converted him to her cause. I am not sure which I would rather believe; Minax being powerful enough to have outright destroyed him, or Anon being bitter enough to have gone over to the other side.”
Sir Dupre stood in silence for a long moment, fingering the pommel of the black longsword at his waist, searching for the words to reassure his regent or even himself. They were nowhere to be found.
“I have been called many things by those who I am doing my best to serve rightfully as their King, Sir Dupre. I have been called a tyrant…usurper…traitor…and many state openly that they believe me to be evil. And yet…” He sighed at length, standing from the table and moving out to the balcony, leaving it behind him. He did not finish the thought, and Sir Dupre was too prudent to pry further.
Dim moonlight peeked through the clouds upon the beleaguered king as he stared out over the moat, and Dupre’s voice broke the silence once more. “My liege, even I doubted you at first…but in time they will see. And even if they do not, Honor is its own reward. We have done our best to do what is right, and we know that even if no others do.”
“Dupre…we will need to have a call to arms. I know that your soldiers are strong, well trained, and a capable unit…but if Minax is powerful enough to defeat Anon herself, or worse if he has joined her…I do not believe even you and they can fight them and win. We will have to…find another way.”
Dupre nodded and bowed his head slightly. “Then I shall inform them at once.” Dupre left through the doors of the castle and King Blackthorn stood in the light for a long moment, the full moon revealing itself as the clouds passed by. The gentle moonlight illuminated him fully, his cloak rustling ever so slightly in the soft breeze. The light gleamed off of his crown and armor, and the obsidian chest that lay just inside the balcony’s opening. He was not quite sure how long he had been there before he heard footsteps, ignoring Heckles’ approach.
It was the soft clack of a chess piece being moved on a board that drew him from his thoughts with a bit of irritation. “Heckles, I am not in the mood for your taunts and jests…and you know that I want nobody to touch that board, not until…”
Softly and with a chuckle a rich voice echoed inside as Blackthorn’s words faltered, staring at the seeming apparition before him. “Before a friend could return to take their move on the board that was still waiting for your own when you appeared?”
Blackthorn stood motionless for a long time, staring at the broad smile along the other man’s face, before they both stepped towards each other and embraced tightly, pulling apart a moment later with identically broad grins. “I suppose it was only fair that when I returned after you had thought me lost that I should be under the impression you would never return to these lands…Cantabrigian.”
Lord British’s grin burst into a chuckle. “You should know it best yourself…in Sosaria, an infinite number of things are possible.”
